Puzzmix Review, A fresh, exciting music puzzle game featuring The Muse, Lola! Contains 19 songs and 1 BGM track. Collide and mix Lola spheres together to help them evolve! The more they evolve, the greater the score!

Puzzmix Review Pros:

  • Decent anime-style graphics.
  • 353.2MB download size.
  • 11 trophies.
  • English and Japanese voice choice.
  • Twenty songs to unlock.
  • Online leaderboards for each mode.
  • Puzzle gameplay.
  • The gameplay loop here is where you match two of the same characters and they evolve into another character that can then evolve with them and so on.
  • You just aim where to drop and then gravity and physics take over.
  • As characters evolve it can cause other characters to move all over the screen.
  • Going above the top line leaves you needing to clear any blockages within 5 seconds or it’s game over.
  • Unlock new tracks as you play through the stages.
  • The game plays continuously like in Tetris as you match and evolve characters you go up a stage etc.
  • Plays a lot like those Tsum Tsum games.
  • Very addictive.
  • Easy to learn and pick up.
  • Endless replayability.
  • No game is ever the same.
  • You can see what character drop is coming up next.
  • Before a run, you can press the shoulder buttons to go through the unlocked songs and select one.

Puzzmix Review Cons:

  • No Platinum trophy.
  • Doesn’t have any tutorials but to be fair it’s pretty easy to pick up.
  • The music won’t be to everyone’s taste.
  • At times it’s hard to see what is causing the five-second timer to trigger.
  • Had a few instances of the characters flying around in a very exaggerated way and speed.
  • The unlocks are just songs.
  • Cannot remap the controls.
  • No actual game settings.
  • It is just the one mode with the one background every time.

Summary

Puzzmix is a game that offers a unique blend of puzzle gameplay with an anime-style aesthetic. The game has a decent download size of 353.2MB and offers 11 trophies for players to earn. It provides the option for English and Japanese voiceovers, enhancing the overall gaming experience. The game features twenty songs to unlock, adding to its replayability. It also includes online leaderboards for each mode, fostering a competitive environment.

The gameplay loop involves matching two of the same characters, which then evolve into another character. This evolution can cause other characters to move all over the screen, adding a layer of complexity. The game plays continuously, much like Tetris, and you progress through stages as you match and evolve characters. It’s reminiscent of Tsum Tsum games, making it very addictive and easy to learn.

One of the game’s strengths is its endless replayability. No game is ever the same, and you can see what character drop is coming up next. Before a run, you can press the shoulder buttons to go through the unlocked songs and select one, adding a layer of strategy to the gameplay.

However, Puzzmix does have its drawbacks. It lacks a Platinum trophy, which might be a disappointment for trophy hunters. While it doesn’t have any tutorials, it’s fairly easy to pick up. The music might not be to everyone’s taste, and at times, it’s hard to see what is causing the five-second timer to trigger. There have been instances of characters flying around in a very exaggerated way and speed, which can be disorienting. The unlocks are just songs, and there’s no option to remap the controls. The game lacks actual settings and offers just one mode with one background every time.

Overall, Puzzmix is a fun and addictive puzzle game with a unique gameplay loop and endless replayability. It has some minor drawbacks, such as the lack of a Platinum trophy and limited unlockables. However, its easy-to-learn mechanics and the strategy involved in selecting songs before a run make it an engaging game worth trying, and is a great spin and chill-out game.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
