Review: Lifeless Planet (Xbox One)
While seeking life on a distant planet, an astronaut discovers an abandoned Russian town. He suspects his mission is a hoax until a mysterious young woman saves him from a strange and deadly phenomenon…
Pros:
- Detailed graphics with a lot of great locations within the game.
- 1000 Gamerscore.
- Options: Invert vertical look, auto centre camera, vibration settings and even an option to brighten dark areas.
- Gameplay is a exploration game with a bit of puzzling and a fair bit of platforming.
- Atmosphere within the game is just incredible, The sense of loneliness mixed with the thirst with adventure topped off with a bit of fear. If you can play with headphones I recommend it.
- The story is actually really good, Find extra bits to expand on it.
- Unlock new abilities like jet pack and a robot arm.
- Controls look really fiddly and complex when you look at the screen but in truth it is surprisingly easy and simple.
- On screen button prompts help.
- PDA type device store all information like tech uncovered, Story pages found and general back story stuff.
- Anything collectible or interactable emits a twinkling display to aid in finding them.
- The game is a lot of fun to play despite the world looking empty.
- Exploration is done so well with a clear route cleverly disguised so you never feel like you are being directed.
- Contours up a lot of feelings and emotions as you play. This could be done to the atmosphere but still.
Cons:
- A lot of platforming is in the game and a lot of the times it feels un needed.
- Never sure if it has saved properly.
- Check points are far apart.
- Possible to get physically stuck in the scenery.
- Quite a short game.
In Summary, the game surprised me, After missing out on it on the Pc I looked forward to trying it. I found it was a bit slow at the start with not a lot of explanation on what was expected of me. After a few attempts I soon got what the game expected of me and I got instantly hooked, The story mixed in with new areas to explore, Ingredients of a brilliant little game. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the world and look forward to re visiting it.
