Review: Never Stop Sneakin’ (Nintendo Switch)

Infiltrate the enemy base, avoid their patrols, and hack their systems to gain valuable intel. Build your Sneakin’ HQ, and figure out how to stop Guildenstern’s time-traveling scheme!

Pros:

  • PlayStation 1 era graphic style that looks really good.
  • 487MB Download size.
  • Awesome theme tune that sounds like it came straight from  MGS or a James Bond film.
  • Controls- Use left stick or touchscreen swipes.
  • A love letter to Metal Gear Solid franchise.
  • Opening tutorial.
  • In engine cutscenes.
  • Attacks are automatic, Approach an enemy from behind for insta kill, Enemy sees you then you auto fire, Launch EMP grenades if spotted by a camera or turret.
  • Three save slots each showing collectibles, Upgrades and overall progress percentage.
  • Roguelike gameplay in that you only have one life but you can keep the base you are building.
  • Espionage points (ESP) is the in-game currency and what you collect.
  • Hidden packages to collect.
  • Hack computers for loot.
  • Clear UI- Shows ammo, Grenades, Health and combo counter and any perks.
  • Has a speed run mentality to it.
  • Loadout- Choose any unlocked skin/character design and any unlocked weapons.
  • Combo counter complete with cooldown bar so you can keep it going.
  • End of the level breakdown of performance and total collected ESP.
  • Big boss fights.
  • Base- Expand your base with ESP and unlock new perks, Missions, and levels.
  • Can skip cutscenes and conversations.
  • Perks- Many to unlock like armor, Scavenge ammo or health, Earn more ESP. Perks are found in level and only last as long as your run.
  • Extract out of the level option.
  • Simple to play.
  • A lot of fun.
  • In level shop to top up on ammo or health and buy a random perk using collected ESP.
  • Top down camera perspective.
  • Missions are laid out as do X amount of levels then face a boss. As you progress you get longer levels and multiple boss fights in a run.
  • Humourous dialogue and great conversations between the characters.
  • Fast and fluid responsive controls.
  • Boss battles have tips on what to do.
  • Really cool level locations like underground caverns to spaceships and factories.
  • Strong level design.
  • Keycards drop from enemies and unlock bonus rooms.
  • Levels and loot are randomized every run.

Cons:

  • Had a weird UI glitch where the text didn’t load and the cursor went a bit all over the place. Shut the game down only to have my save wiped.
  • No map.
  • Enemies are dumb and don’t react to things like a colleague dying right next to them or walls being broken next to them.
  • Weapons are just skins.
  • Never sure if the game has saved.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
