  • At the end of a map is the enemy HQ and here you have a big fight with a boss and beating them rewards your choice of a new mutation, rewards and unlocking collected items forever.
  • 2D platformer game world with a lot of verticality.
  • The game works really well for the genre and is a natural fit.
  • Four-player online and offline multiplayer support.
  • The game is a ton of fun and with all the explosions and combos popping off it is a visual and visceral experience.
  • After you unlock the teleport to leave a level you can just stay and earn more loot and leave when you are ready.
  • Great locations that are taken from the original game and remixed.

Alien Hominid Invasion Review Cons:

  • The screen is very busy.
  • You have a lot to take in which is made harder by not knowing what’s going on half the time.
  • Constant difficulty spikes.
  • Not all the missions in a level are straightforward or clear so it can get frustrating.
  • Takes a while to unlock better weapons and gear.

Summary

Alien Hominid Invasion is a visually engaging game with awesome cartoon graphics. It’s a 2D platformer shooter game with a run-based game loop and a world map that allows freedom of movement. The game stands out with its unique features such as three difficulty levels, two modes – mastery and permakeep, and four save slots. It also offers full controller support and Steam achievements.

The game starts with an opening tutorial section showing off the controls and actions. As you progress, you encounter loot drops from breakable objects, enemies, and rewards. All loot has rarity levels and the loot boxes collected in a level are unlocked after you finish the level. The goal of each level is to complete three random missions, some timed and some not.

At the end of a map is the enemy HQ where you have a big fight with a boss. Beating them rewards your choice of a new mutation, rewards, and unlocking collected items forever. The game supports four-player online and offline multiplayer.

Despite the constant difficulty spikes and unclear missions that can get frustrating, the game is a ton of fun with all the explosions and combos popping off, providing a visual and visceral experience. However, it takes a while to unlock better weapons and gear. The screen can get very busy, making it harder to take in what’s going on half the time. Nevertheless, Alien Hominid Invasion works really well for the genre and is a natural fit. A fantastic return to form and proves the world still needs more Alien Hominids.
