Join our B.Ark Review as we try and help a heroic team of pets in mechs take back Earth in this exciting Saturday Morning Cartoon-inspired shoot em’ up for both new and hardcore players.

B.Ark Review Pros:

Nice cartoon graphics.
579.27MB download size.
Remote play together support.
Steam achievements.
Controller support.
Graphics – fullscreen and resolution.
Can rebind controls.
2-4 local multiplayer.
Shmup gameplay.
Cartoon style cutscenes.
Players – four pilots each with a unique attack, enter a 3 letter name, and set up a profile.
Opening training level.
Actions – rapid-fire, don’t shoot and it charges a big shot, dodge to avoid enemies and projectiles.
Shards drop from enemies and for upgrading your firepower level.
Three difficulties – normal, hard, and insane.
You can combine supers with other players.
Can skip cutscenes.
Happy soundtrack.
End of level breakdown.
Rescue friends to earn bonus powers.
Health, super, and weapon power-ups drop.
Plutonium increases your firepower level immensely and changes your firing style depending on what character you are.
A lot of boss fights.
Clean easy to read Ui.
Approachable shooter.
Checkpoints.
Bullet hell aspects.
Serves as a good introduction to the genre.
A lot more fun in Co-op play.

B.Ark Cons:

Small areas to move around in.
A lot of boss fights.
Levels go on too long.
The screen gets so chaotic you cannot make out who or what is what.
No leaderboards.
Little incentive to play on higher difficulties.
Bad checkpointing.
The tutorial doesn’t explain all the mechanics and pick-ups in-game.
Basic gunplay.
The mouse cursor stays on the screen.

Summary

I am now at the stage where I have played a lot of shmups over the years. I always look forward to trying one as I wanna see the Gimmick or the twist. B.Ark is a four-player Co-op shooter using a Gimmick whereby you collect shards and Plutonium to level up your weapons which changes how they work, any damage has you lose the level and thus makes your gun worse. That’s it really as everything else from the shooting to the boss battles is very generic and you have played it a million times before. It has bright cartoon graphics and simple controls but with cramped level design to basic power-ups and gameplay, B.Ark is a good shooter for an introduction to the genre but it’s not going to stimulate any veterans of the genre.
