Byte The Bullet Review (PlayStation 5)

Byte The Bullet Review, Get into my infected computer and restore every virus-ridden system by recovering game attributes like color or save functions. Explore correlated worlds in a non-linear campaign that tests your skills.

Byte The Bullet Review Pros:

  • Decent pixel art graphics.
  • 332.1MB download size.
  • Platinum trophy.
  • You get the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5 versions of the game.
  • Run and gun gameplay.
  • Tutorial pop-ups via the code as you play.
  • A retro game in its appearance, music, and gameplay.
  • You are going into the computer and taking out the virus enemies.
  • You collect binary (so 1s and 0s) for currency and the 1s also reset your meter so you can do more jumps.
  • The shooting mechanic is one where the longer you hold down the button the slower and less impactful the bullets are.
  • A cool-down meter is used for jumping, dashing, and shooting. Not doing any of these will let it refill.
  • Different color schemes will be on different parts of the computer (levels) with nods to many classic computers.
  • Had a Metal Gear Solid theme with a code-style system and some of the soundbites sound alike.
  • Slight puzzle elements in places.
  • End of level breakdown showing secrets found and how many are in the level.
  • Simple controls.
  • World map level select.
  • You can replay levels and choose your way through the map.
  • It’s cool the way the world is split up into computer parts.
  • It all looks really good.
  • Chiptune soundtrack.
  • Humour throughout.
  • Very difficult.
  • Every level has a minimum of one secret area to find.
  • Has a lot of charm and a fantastic presentation.
  • When highlighting a previously finished level you get a completion pop-up.

Byte The Bullet Review Cons:

  • The game is difficult.
  • Controls are simple but it takes some getting used to how you jump and shoot around.
  • The tutorial pop-ups are slow and constant.
  • It’s a pain to play as you never know what can kill you, blocks can blow up, things turn into guns and you just never know.
  • Keeping an eye on health is not straightforward.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
