Cavern of Dreams Review Pros:
- Awesome N64-era graphics.
- 242.66MB download size.
- Steam achievements.
- Full controller support.
- Graphics settings – fullscreen and blur filter.
- 3 save slots.
- 3D action-platformer gameplay.
- Has a strong Rare games vibe like Banjo or Conkers.
- Can Invert the axis of the camera.
- Tutorial signs as you play.
- Puzzle elements.
- Your goal is to collect Dragon eggs and exchange them for new abilities.
- Four areas to explore and each has a set amount of eggs, mushrooms, and cards to collect.
- Handy recentre camera button.
- Infinite lives.
- Cool-looking locations.
- As you learn new abilities you can go back to old areas and get to previously unreachable areas.
- You are free to go between any location that is unlocked.
- Solid level design.
- Handy notifications of when you have earned a new ability.
- A lot of shortcuts and secrets to find.
- Solid little game.
- The main hub acts as a crossroad in terms of picking areas, you can go here to get your new abilities and speak with your unhatched eggs to get clues on secrets.
- each area houses its own set of mechanics and features.
- I like how you can freely go between the areas and the road forward is not always straight.
Cavern of Dreams Review Cons:
- Cannot rebind controls.
- The text for some of the inputs sounds more like arrows on a compass.
- The camera can go a lot all over the place, especially in tight areas and platforms.
- Not always clear where to go or what to do.
- The controls take some getting used to.
- No real graphics settings.
- Save and Quit has you starting back at the hub every time.
- The game doesn’t always save my settings.
- You can be stuck and not realize that it’s a part you cannot do until you have an ability.
- A lot of cheap deaths.
- Time-based parts suck.
- No way to fast return to the hub for upgrades.
