Chessplosion Review (Steam)

Chessplosion Review of this arcade action puzzle game where you drop chess piece-shaped bombs to create chain reactions and trap opponents. Defeat enemies and bosses in Adventure Mode, break targets with limited bombs in Puzzle Mode, dodge explosions in Survival Mode, or fight friends and AI in Battle Mode.

  • Graphics – full screen, resolution, frame rate, custom frames per second, fullscreen scaling and screen filter.
  • Can rebind controls for both keyboard and the controller buttons.
  • Easy to learn controls – movement amd bomb.
  • Game settings – full-color selection, squares layout, screen shake, static background, speed run timer, online input delay.
  • Assist mode – health lives in arcade, game speed, and allow skip levels.
  • Three game types – solo play, battle, and online.
  • How to play area.
  • Chess meets Bomberman gameplay.
  • Solo play modes – adventure, puzzle, survival, arcade, and training.
  • Battle modes – free for all, team battle, and tennis.
  • 2 – 4 local player multiplayer.
  • Online is just 1 v 1 and you have a server browser or quick join.
  • Arcade has 3 difficulties – beginner, advanced, and expert.
  • Each chess piece causes a unique explosion and the goal is to eliminate your opposition.
  • Tennis mode is where you have half of the board each and throw your pieces over.
  • You can place multiple pieces at once.
  • Games are timed in some modes.
  • You get a cooldown on pieces to stop you from spamming the board so much.
  • A very good mash-up.
  • Even with assist mode you can still experience the game and get Steam achievements.
  • A lot of fun.
  • Devilishly addictive.
  • Boss encounters.
  • Adventure mode is a spider Web of levels and you pick a path as you play.
  • Varies your opponent’s numbers and can have you facing off against 3 or 4 at a time.
  • Battle settings – round limit, time limit, sudden death, bomb count, and health amount.

Chessplosion Review Cons:

  • Minimal graphic settings.
  • Gets repetitive.
  • Doesn’t have a level creator.
  • Only a handful of character colors and all the characters are the same models.
  • Not enough environmental things like holes and boxes.
  • The slight learning curve to it all.
  • Games can outstay their welcome.
  • Each world in adventure feels the same.
  • No scoring or leaderboard.
  • Never sure about the bomb timers.
