Dark Quest 3 Review Pros:

  • Nice hand-drawn graphics.
  • 4.08GB download size.
  • Platinum trophy.
  • Works on Playstation 5.
  • Roguelike Tabletop gameplay.
  • The help menu serves as a text-based manual.
  • Three save slots.
  • Four game difficulties – Easy, normal, eldar, and legendary.
  • Isometric view.
  • Camera control is just panning the screen around.
  • Game Start has you picking four hero classes to form a party.
  • Every run is randomized.
  • Love the atmosphere as the Game master looks over your game from the background.
  • Excellent soundtrack and effects.
  • Nice animations.
  • The game plays out with a card being drawn every round and you then activate the card.
  • Combat is turn-based and on a grid-style floor.
  • Unlock new playable classes by rescuing them.
  • Constant multiple choice encounters and questions and answers.
  • Upgrades characters and you get to choose one of three upgrade choices.
  • Use cards to play powerful attacks and abilities.
  • Very easy to get into.
  • Despite the appearances, it is quite a deep rewarding game.
  • Heal in between events.
  • Crystals earned are retained even upon death and are used to buy items to make future runs easier.
  • You can abandon runs.
  • Save and exit option.

Dark Quest 3 Review Cons:

  • Cannot rebind controls.
  • The Elder and legendary difficulties have to be unlocked.
  • You only have four initial classes available but you can see the additional classes shown.
  • No game Options.
  • The movement in combat is horrible as they feel wrong and don’t flow.
  • There is no real tutorial and instead just throws you in.
  • Camera control in combat is not great as you cannot rotate the camera to even see the enemy.
  • At the end of a run, you just go straight back to the party management screen.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
