Review: Dead Island

That zombie survival game that had that awesome trailer, But then the game was nothing like it. This annoyed potential buyers straight away. Available on PS3,360 and PC this is a great game overall. I gave this game a chance, just purely for the co op and the setting. Did that pay off?

  • Big open world areas in various locations
  • you can drive a pick up truck around!
  • The resort level is lush to look at and a joy to explore
  • Varied weapons to be scavenged/found
  • Great tense atmosphere, You never feel safe
  • Great fun in 4 player co-op
  • Long campaign with many many side quests
  • Ability to upgrade weapons
  • Has the whole “loot” mentality
  • On PC it has a huge modding community that can make it a brand new game
  • Combat is easy to master
  • 4 Characters to choose from, Each with their own unique talents and play style
  • Combat can get a bit samey and tired after a while
  • Auto saves can sometimes not work despite telling you it has worked
  • Finding the rarer items is a grind and purely based on luck
  • All zombies are the same through out the game
  • The story is very cheesy and predictable
  • Not a lot of incentive to go back through the campaign
This game is a true marmite game, You either love it or hate it. It is a solid 40 hour plus game that does reward your hard work. Best enjoyed in co op with a few of your buddies.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
