For our Doomed To Hell Review, we play a roguelike-like top-down shooter where you play as Rose, a human in hell who will need to fight all of its monsters in waves of enemies, defeat bosses, and get new weapons to earn back his life on earth.

  • Works on Playstation 5.
  • Game settings – screen shake and aim offset slider.
  • Twin stick shooter gameplay.
  • Opening tutorial section.
  • Wave-based combat.
  • Between waves, you pick one of three temporary buffs.
  • Breakable objects.
  • You can hot-swap between weapons.
  • Roll the button to dodge bullets.
  • Between levels, you get to spend cash in the shop on permanent unlocks for future runs.
  • Simple controls.
  • Has light roguelike elements.

Doomed To Hell Review Cons:

  • Really small text.
  • Minimal settings.
  • Just keeps going, if you die, it just starts at wave one again.
  • The text is so small you have no idea what’s going on story-wise.
  • Same temporary buffs as it is a small pool.
  • The level location is small and then they add in many unbreakable obstacles.
  • Very repetitive.
  • The hook to keep you coming back is just not there.

Summary

Doomed to Hell is right on the money except hell is the constant game loop that hardly ever changes. The game is a twin-stick shooter but the areas are small and the enemies are huge and it all makes for a tedious, not fun experience. I just don’t get why you put a lot of time into the game because it is just the same thing over and over and boredom sunk in way before any other emotion could be emitted. I just wouldn’t bother if I was you.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
