Everhood 2 Review Nintendo Switch OLED

Everhood 2 Review, Discover the color of your soul and what lies beyond the river of death in a strange land. Accompany a mysterious celestial Raven who has deemed you worthy of slaying the Mind Dragon.

Everhood 2 Review Pros:

  • Decent graphics.
  • 1.8GB download size.
  • Accessibility settings – image sensitive, and Colourblind.
  • Graphics quality – low, medium, and high.
  • Audio settings for battle music, overworld, sound effects, music, battle sfx, overworld sfx, and UI sfx. Each has their own slider.
  • 3 save slots.
  • Opening questionnaire that may or may not affect the outcome of the game.
  • 4 game difficulties – story, easy, medium, and hard.
  • Beautiful low graphic game world.
  • Tutorial pop ups as you play.
  • Multiple choice encounters and decisions form a lot of the story and gameplay.
  • Adventure rhythm gameplay.
  • Playable tutorial sections and ongoing text pop up.
  • Has a strong Undertale homage to it from the graphics style to the fonts and animations.
  • The presentation of every encounter is unique and memorable.
  • At times it feels like a mushroom trip.
  • Powerful game in that you think about it when you are not playing it.
  • Save points are scattered about the world.
  • Excellent Chiptune soundtrack and effects.
  • Combat is like Guitar Hero in appearance, with lanes you can jump between, colored elements will appear and come at you, jump over them or absorb them to build up a power attack. Getting hit or collecting a different colored element will reset the power of the attack.
  • Perfect fit for the Nintendo Switch OLED Console.
  • Memorable characters.
  • End of battle breakdown showing exp earned and enemies defeated.
  • Depending on your difficulty, choices depend on what happens when you die in battle, it’s either a full restart or you instantly respawn and carry on with a new health bar.
  • Aside from moving lanes in combat, you need to jump over obstacles, avoid the wrong element, etc.
  • Green elements heal aswel as attack.
  • The combat once learned is very satisfying.
  • Massive boss encounters and face off against multiple enemies at once.
  • Earn exp and level up to increase health, and damage.
  • You have a central area with a Raven who is helping you, in this place you can freely choose the order of where to go.
  • Locations are actually different worlds and you have the power to travel between them.
  • Find power gems and use them to upgrade your stats.
  • You can equip a companion, weapon, and a talisman.
  • Talismans will have a unique power or buff but always come with a huge cool down.
  • Some of the effects get pretty gnarly.
  • It’s a game you can lose hours to.

Everhood 2 Review Cons:

  • The questionnaire is very matter of fact, so it is yes or no, not maybe or sometimes, etc.
  • Movement when in combat is very sensitive and can make the more hectic battles a test of reflexes over anything else.
  • It’s such a small window but you can easily lose a streak of power built up in combat with a slight graze against the wrong element.
  • Combat does not lend itself well to pausing the game.
  • It’s a slow starter.
  • Facing the same enemy type is common and causes the fights to become repetitive.
  • It’s hard to see the obstacles properly at times.
  • You cannot always skip cutscenes or interactions.
  • Some of the noises they use are unpleasant, for me, the constant ticking or tapping noise in the pause menu is next level annoying.
  • I wish you could have conversations that auto scroll.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
