Farlands Journey Review Pros:
- Nice pixel art graphics.
- 293.3MB download size.
- Platinum trophy.
- Works on Playstation 5.
- Puzzle platformer gameplay.
- Tutorial signs as you play.
- Handy deadzone slider for the controller.
- 2D perspective with animated backgrounds.
- Happy bouncy chip tune-inspired soundtrack.
- You play as a little wizard and can cast spells to break blocks and trap enemies Bubble Bobble style.
- The camera can be moved around slightly with the right stick.
- Casting bubbles can be instant but don’t trap enemies, you need to charge the cast to trap enemies.
- Knock off enemies’ hats and wear them for an extra ability like spiked helmets, which means you can break blocks. It also counts as an extra bit of defense as the next hit takes the hat away not your heart.
- Levels are generally big enough to have multiple routes through them.
- Your health is three heart pieces, losing all three puts you back at the beginning of the level but you keep all collected gems.
- Levels are split up into smaller sections but you are always going left to right.
- Many treasure chests to find.
- End of level breakdown.
- Find hidden puzzle pieces.
- You can replay levels from the world map.
- Each level on the world map shows what collectibles you have found.
- Many hidden rooms and secrets.
Farlands Journey Review Cons:
- You have to charge the bubble and it takes so long.
- Touching anything solid with the bubble magic will instantly pop the bubble.
- Level design is plain with many secrets feeling familiar to players of this genre.
- The music does begin to sound the same.
- You cannot remap controls.
- The game never feels like it has anything unique or different.
- Basic trophy list, going for ease of capture rather than mixing it into the game.
- Bare minimum settings.
