G Darius HD Review (PlayStation 4)

For our G Darius HD Review, we experience the conflicts between the Amnelia Kingdom and the merciless Thiima Empire that took place before the battle between the people of Darius and Belsar. During this conflict, the series’ iconic Silver Hawks were created to make use of the game’s unique capture ball system that allows you to forge your own strategy and gain an edge over the enemy.

G Darius HD Review Pros:

  • Decent graphics with both modern and pixel perfect versions.
  • 126.1MB download size.
  • Platinum trophy.
  • Own in-game achievements.
  • 8 difficulties.
  • Shmup gameplay.
  • Five backgrounds.
  • The game manual is presented as the original manuals of the day complete with tutorials and images.
  • Two game versions – G Darius HD uses high poly 3D models and G Darius is the classic graphics.
  • Quicksave and load system.
  • Has an external menu in play to quickly change it up and do the saving and loading.
  • Set lives amount.
  • Continues can be turned on and off.
  • Free play on/off is a menu option.
  • Can rebind controls for every player.
  • 3 display styles – pixel perfect, fit to screen, and fullscreen.
  • Scanlines – on/off.
  • Smoothing – on/off.
  • Achievements notifications as you play. (optional)
  • Screen boundary effects – on/off.
  • Gadget settings – arm strength, bonus score info, counter beam guide, beam gauge, and music title.
  • Can set a ranking filter to show on the Hud.
  • Capture gallery and completion percentage.
  • Gimmick – capture balls allow you to capture enemies and have them fight alongside you. You can indeed capture mini-bosses.
  • Counterattacks are where you press fire at the same time as the enemy’s beam is attacking and you smash the button to knock it back.
  • Power-up capsules can be collected to upgrade your weapons.
  • Arm capsules build up your shield.
  • One up capsules can be collected.
  • You have single and rapid shot buttons along with a dedicated capture shot button.
  • Local multiplayer support.

G Darius HD Review Cons:

  • A lot to take in.
  • Can be confusing on what button does what.
  • Capturing isn’t the best feeling in the world.
  • No online multiplayer.
  • The game’s flow takes a while to build.
  • Nothing really on the history of the title.
  • Quite difficult even on easy.
