Summary
Goliath Depot is an action platformer game that stands out with its decent pixel art graphics and an excellent chiptune soundtrack. The game is a modest 127MB download size and offers a variety of options including screenshake, CRT filter, color saturation, vibration, and a speed runner timer. The goal of the game is simple yet engaging: close all the doors while stunning and kicking enemies, and collecting coins within levels. The game also supports two-player local play, making it a fun choice for cooperative gaming.
The game features seven total characters, two available initially and five more to unlock. Each character comes with a dozen or so color choices, adding a layer of customization. Before each run, players can choose to buy and activate power-ups like gliding and super crouch, using the coins earned within the game. The gameplay is addictive, with players running around slamming doors, collecting coins, and kicking enemies off-screen, all against the clock. The combo counter kicks in when slamming a door to stun an enemy, which can then be kicked away. Despite the enemies’ return, the game remains engaging with its many enemy types and simple controls to learn.
However, Goliath Depot does have its drawbacks. The controls cannot be remapped, and there is no online play. The extreme difficulty has to be unlocked first, and there are no online leaderboards. The tutorial is brief, with cutscenes showing the rules of the game but without in-game help. Once in the game, the controls cannot be viewed again. The jump is very small and takes some getting used to, and just touching a spring will trigger you to stand on it properly and you have to use it.
Overall, Goliath Depot is a fun and engaging action platformer game with a unique goal and addictive gameplay. Its excellent graphics and soundtrack, along with its variety of characters and power-ups, make it a game worth playing. However, its lack of control remapping, online play, and a comprehensive tutorial may be points of improvement for a better gaming experience. Despite these, the game’s charm and engaging gameplay make it a title that players find themselves coming back to time and again.
