Hole Digging Master Review Pros:

  • Decent graphics.
  • 1.21GB download size.
  • Platinum trophy.
  • You get the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5 versions of the game.
  • Cross-save support between the two PlayStation versions.
  • Digging a hole in the garden gameplay.
  • Tutorial pop-ups.
  • You get a startup video showing the garden and shed.
  • It’s a game where you have a small shovel, battery, etc, and then as you dig up resources like diamonds, Platinum, and stone, you sell them to upgrade your tools.
  • Play how you want.
  • Depth marker shows and updates in real time.
  • Ridiculously addictive.
  • Buy special items like a lamp to stick to the wall, and dynamite to blow up large chunks of the earth.
  • Dynamite can blow up unbreakable rocks with your shovel and the lava-based rocks that damage you.
  • The battery goes down when using the shovel and the jetpack.
  • When the battery hits zero, you can respawn, but you lose all your collected resources.
  • Fall damage is a thing.
  • Find special artifacts and mines with the handy radar tool that pops up automatically when near.
  • A garden shed is where you sell resources, buy upgrades and tools, and hit the save point.
  • The depth meter is shown on the side.
  • Hidden artifacts to display on the shelf in the shed.
  • High replay value as you reset the game world after finishing the story.
  • The performance is better in this version mainly because it is using the Unreal 5 engine.
  • The lighting is really good.
  • Find hidden skeleton bones.
  • The depth you go is far, and it changes a lot of the earth you dig through.

Hole Digging Master Review Cons:

  • Cannot remap the controls.
  • No autosave.
  • The Fall damage is harsh, and the height of it seems all over the place.
  • The same music track just plays on loop, and it is very grating.
  • Any tutorial stuff is brief, and even then, there isn’t a lot of it to begin with.
  • There are still performance hiccups in places.
  • Pricing of upgrades and how slow you get money make it a real slog to get going, and you always feel satisfied with the pace.
  • The increments of the digging size are so small each time.
  • Finding hidden mines and tunnels is tricky, as the device you use is not easy to read or understand.
  • Any small bit of dirt that doesn’t get cleared will be a huge obstacle to you, especially when leaving the tunnel.
  • It is easy to break and lose a lamp accidentally.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
