- Controller settings – Invert axis and sensitivity sliders, and you can remap the controls.
- Third-person auto-battler gameplay.
- Tutorial pop-ups as you play.
- Think Vampire Saviours but in a full 3D game world.
- Earn exp orbs from enemies and collect them to level up, and then choose one of three random upgrades.
- Game settings – analytics, show tutorials, show input hints, I need to hit these harder, camera mode (manual/auto), field of view slider, max level up delay slider, and persistent ragdoll count slider.
- Feathers are the currency you keep after death. Speak to the Father in the hub and spend on permanent stat increases.
- In-game character interactions that are voiced, you can fast click through them.
- Visit the book in the hub that shows all collected info on weapons, the Codex, and abilities.
- The Blacksmith in the hub lets you equip and craft new weapons and special attacks.
- Full 360 camera support.
- The whole game is run based.
- Build up special attacks and execute them with a button.
- The locations you play in are open enough that you can run around and explore aswel as play the game.
- Pick the same upgrade again to level it up.
- Clear, easy-to-read HUD.
- Exo bar shows all the time.
- Damage numbers pop up as you deal damage.
- You can pause the game.
- Break barrels for health pickups, and you upgrade how many you can carry.
- The game uses the health bar system.
- Very impressive on-screen enemy count.
- End of run breakdown.
- The story is given out as you are playing, as are the quests.
- Mission markers will pop up to help.
- At any time in the hub (Sanctum), you can get all your feathers back for free and reassign them.
- When travelling to a new run, you can pick any unlocked areas and locations.
- Keys are rewarded for finishing quests and objectives. Use the keys to open chests for loot.
- Quest progression shows up as you fill it.
- Health and other items can be assigned to a quick-select wheel.
- You have light, heavy, and special attacks, and then dodge, side-step, and dash.
- After doing x amount of quests, you get a choice to go back to sanctuj or if you carry on until the Guardian boss.
- Unlock new abilities, and the controls for them will show up.
- Earn and unlock new upgrade choices for future runs.
- Massive Guardian boss fights.
- The game is very moreish and just keeps you hooked.
Hordes of Hunger Preview Cons
- No Steam achievements.
- Doesn’t have an option for controller icons.
- The game doesn’t really have any accessibility options like Colourblind support.
- Even on the lowest setting, the camera on the controller is oversensitive.
- It can be hard to see the writing when playing on the big screen, and see enemies as they seem to blend in.
- Not all the actions are assigned by default to the controller.
- Combat is very button-mashy.
- The tutorial is basic and not that in-depth.
