Summary

Intrepid Izzy is a game that successfully combines Metroidvania, street fighter-style combat, and RPG genres into one. It takes some getting used to as the combat is really fleshed out with uppercuts, combos, and even fireballs! It won’t take long and once you get on your way the game opens up. I never felt like I was forced to go a particular way and with a wide-open world, I had a lot of freedom to do as I please. Magic mirrors allow fast travel and save points are plentiful so it always pays off to explore. I found towns where I could do little throw-away side missions and an arcade that allowed me to play mini-games that are honestly basic in design but addictive in playing them. I was really surprised by this game as it looks kinda basic and for the first half hour it does little to change your mind but then you get into the puzzles, the platforming, and nailing massive combos. Intrepid Izzy is a surprising hit of the year.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
