Kiborg Preview (Steam Demo)

Kiborg Preview is a fast-paced, story-driven action game with rogue-lite encounters. Each challenge is unique and the narrative always moves forward, win or lose. Become an unstoppable war machine and face the consequences of your actions as you lead a resistance group on a faraway prison planet.

Kiborg Preview Pros:

  • Decent graphics.
  • 12.1GB Download size.
  • Full controller support.
  • Graphics settings – fullscreen, resolution, overall quality, shadows, anti-aliasing, brightness slider, texture quality, effects quality, reflections, motion blur, v-sync, fps limit in the menu, and fps limit in the game.
  • Optional tutorial area where you take on lessons about combat and earn credits.
  • Mouse and keyboard options – Invert axis and sensitivity sliders for the mouse and remap controls for the mouse and keyboard.
  • Controller settings – Invert the axis and sensitivity sliders and you can set button icons to Xbox or Playstation.
  • 3D roguelike fighting gameplay.
  • Feels like a darker more in-depth take in Streets Of Rage.
  • Wide stable of attacks with full blocking and parrying mechanics.
  • Online leaderboards.
  • The upgrade tree is split into four areas – endurance, immortality, support, and power.
  • Earn credits and spend them in your upgrade trees.
  • Fast loading times.
  • Excellent soundtrack.
  • Rogue-based runs where you choose your route through a randomized Web of events and encounters.
  • Kill enemies to get an implant that you then choose where to insert in your character with each slot changing the stats of the implant.
  • Implants have rarity levels that add buffs and abilities.
  • The game has melee and ranged weapons.
  • Meditation events on the map allow you to pick one of three options and it always has a heal option.
  • Your health carries is consistent across the whole run.
  • Upgrades from the tree are permanent unlocks.
  • Breakable objects within the areas.
  • A friendly robot can fight alongside you if you stand close to him.
  • Your character changes their appearance as you add implants.
  • The combat is very fluid and fast.
  • Supports playing with the mouse and keyboard.
  • Levels are self-contained and quite short.
  • The locations of the areas are fantastic looking.
  • Story text pops up as you unlock new missions.
  • Splits reen support and you can have it set to horizontal or vertical split.
  • Such a cool idea.
  • The core gameplay is absolutely solid but now it needs to be built out.
  • Shields are a huge component of the game, as you block you lose shields temporarily (they regen), and depending on the attack depends on how many you use, run out and you take damage. You use shields when rolling and dodging so shield management is key.

Kiborg Preview Cons:

  • Cannot remap controls.
  • Had the game not ended a level and I had to quit.
  • The tutorials have to be unlocked over time.
  • The story text doesn’t do the game justice.
  • Needs voice work or some character added to the protagonist.
  • A few of the menu choices would be unclickable.
  • The levels are short especially early on it has a lot of transition and menu surfing that keeps breaking the action up.
  • Some of the encounters can be annoying for a variety of reasons, the enemy can get stuck in scenery, big numbers can make lock on hard, and remembering what dlshield damage each attack type does requires a lot of remembering.
  • No character customisation outside of the implants but even they are clearly the same each time.
  • Reaching the end of a run is very anti-climatic and uneventful.
  • You cannot interact with or use the environment. It’s just smashing things up.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
