Summary

The game is a free-to-play, laser-dodging race to the finish with gory over-the-top deaths from lasers. It offers three ways to play – public, custom games, and single-player. The gameplay involves dodging lasers that require you to jump, crouch, or crawl past them, and crossing balance beams. The game features 24 level layouts.

The game Lasers has nice graphics and requires a 1.4GB download size. It offers Steam achievements and an opening replayable tutorial. The graphics settings include quality preset, fullscreen, resolution, fps limit, v-sync, and motion blur. Both controller and keyboard/mouse controls can be remapped, including invert axis and sensitivity sliders. There’s also a profanity-filtering option.

The game provides a basic character choice with nine initial character models and fourteen available for purchase. Emotes can be bought and edited into the emote wheel. An in-game text chat is available for interaction. The game also features a game show-style voice guy and an alright soundtrack.

In single-player mode, you can choose rounds, timers, and levels. Custom games offer the same options as single players along with a region setting, and the join game code can be set. The public mode has a server browser to create games and quickly join.

Despite its strengths, the game has some drawbacks. Dying anywhere in the tutorial means starting back at the beginning. The animations can look a bit weird at times, and the online numbers are small. The in-app purchases are considered expensive and not worth it. The game has little replay value out of the multiplayer, and the levels are all self-contained with no cohesion. It doesn’t lean hard enough into the game show angle, and there’s no way to have the timer on your HUD at all times. Lastly, the game lacks in terms of rewards.

Overall, the game is excellent with friends, and you can earn halos to buy characters and emotes. However, it could benefit from improvements in several areas. It is fun in short bursts and has something but it just needs a bit more variety.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
