  • You can jump into a mech and assign different tools to your arm.
  • The building lets you place the outline of the structure anywhere, and then you add the materials to make it instantly.
  • Build and sleep in a house/tent to skip the night.
  • Tools are saws, a vacuum for picking up materials, a plant seed gun, and an irrigation hose gun.
  • Everything you can break has a health bar.
  • You can get out of your mech whenever you want.
  • The mech is third person, out of the mech is in the first person.
  • Having a mech shoot and vacuum materials makes so many mundane tasks fast and kind of fun.
  • Your mech holds materials and you as a person can pick up materials and then throw them at the mech to store them.
  • Gets very addictive.
  • Play how you want.
  • Constant rolling tasks and objectives, you can tag and untag them as you go and even create your little mission markers.
  • The game relies on you doing things like clearing out areas and finding Artifacts within them.
  • Fuel your irrigation gun by using the vacuum to suck up water for ammo.
  • You can actually pause the game in solo play.
  • The mech has a small jet pack.
  • A very chilled-out experience.
  • The map fills in as you play and you can place your own markers.
  • Create dishes to feed the wildlife and nests of animals.
  • Earn and unlock new recipes as you find new materials.
  • As you restore areas the world learns to grow and flourish, when an area begins its growth you get a nice flyover of the area.
  • Build massive towns and functioning tools.

Lightyear Frontier Preview Cons:

  • The tutorial doesn’t always show when needed, obviously only with the Xbox controller being used.
  • The mouse cursor has a habit of popping up at random times when using the controller.
  • The game doesn’t explain a lot of the mechanics.
  • Very slow starter.
  • A lot of build this to make that type of game flow.
  • Clearing an area can be a frustrating experience as you have a large area to cover but also no help in identifying the missing objective locations.
  • The system for swapping arms/tools is not always ideal.
  • For some reason your mech will ragdoll, it looks hilarious but it is infuriating.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
