  • Traveling via the map costs stamina and time is taken away from the day.
  • Tutorial pop-ups as you play.
  • Movement within the world is done in an Anime way, hard to explain but it’s not smooth but is very impactful.
  • Time is always going. (not when paused)
  • Twenty save slots.
  • Save when you want from the menu.
  • Going with the movement, the transitions are also done in a unique way.
  • The gameplay parts are set camera angles and you can freely move around it as it’s 3D.
  • Attending extra classes can improve your social status and intelligence.
  • On-screen button prompts.
  • Increase your stats by doing training at various locations like parks and gyms. How much of an increase you get is dependent on what you are doing or how long for.
  • Beautiful locations.
  • Fast travel points appear as you progress/explore.
  • Blessings can be rewarded from events and finding them in the world and give a reward like improving friendship levels.
  • Eat food to restore energy and stamina.
  • Suggest activities with friends to boost how much your friendship level grows.
  • Day/night cycle.
  • Shops have set opening times.
  • Has a Persona Golden feel to it with the general game flow, friendships, and juggling lessons.
  • Full-party management and recruitment system. Fighting alongside friends will increase your friendship rating.
  • The underworld is prevalent in the game and when here you engage with enemies the while place has a crazy old school horror type filter over the tip which affects the colors etc.
  • Turn-based combat.
  • Three emotions affect the power of your attacks – Friendship, Affection, and hate.
  • If you use an emotion too much in battle it can actually make the fight harder as it empowers the enemy.
  • Party members act independently in combat.
  • When in the underworld you have to do X amount of tasks/fights before you dispel the barrier to allow you to return home.
  • A loop – when the world is destroyed or when speaking with Terasu.
  • When a loop kicks in the world and all characters reset back to how they were on August 1st.
  • Blessings carry over between loops.

Loop8 Summer Of Gods Review Cons:

  • Cannot rebind controls.
  • No real game Options.
  • Long opening cutscenes.
  • Very slow pace to it all.
  • The opening hour is all very hand Holdy and does not allow for any deviation.
  • For large swaths of the game, you always feel one step behind on knowledge.
  • Reading or using the map is a pain.
  • The combat has so much going on and initially, it’s daunting but over time it’s just slow.

Summary

Loop8 looks fantastic going for a blend of animation style that bleeds into the movement, character interaction, and cutscenes. No matter what happens next the game is a real eye-pleaser. Feeling a lot like an emotional Persona game everything you do in Loop8 is determined by people’s moods and intentions which I hoped would just be a nice bit of filler but it is actually so heavily integrated with the game that you feel like a guidance counselor performing emotional juggling. I just struggled to connect with the game and the first hour or so was really slow and stop-start that I really had to dig deep, Not because the game was boring but more because it made me follow a set route but never said it and instead let me think I could do what I want. I love the world and I really like the setting, Characters are cool and the emotional elements do change everything from relationships to friendships and even battles but at the end of the day they are all forgettable. Combat is turn-based and is in no way a real innovation or unique experience and in fact, is kinda flat. As I said the emotions bleed into combat so as you set up attacks and tactics you need to select what emotion to fight with this affects the enemy in many different ways and using the same emotion over and over will eventually make the enemy stronger and your life harder. The Loop mechanic is good and it really is the draw of the game but again it never really clicks with me and it does frustrate me as I should like this game but it just got too emotional and had less action which meant I left the game more unfilled than anything else.
