Master Maker 3D Ultimate Review Cons:

  • Annoying talking when pausing the game, it says corny things like Come back and aww man.
  • Enemies can move freely through walls.
  • Some platform elements don’t work well due to camera control and angles.
  • Adventure mode is basic and feels kind of pointless, it doesn’t matter if you collect any coins or kill any enemies.
  • The music is not great.
  • Cannot remap controls.
  • Way too many adventure levels and I say this as you need to finish them all to unlock the bonus mode.
  • When building a level it’s a one-time thing meaning you cannot save and come back, once you leave it is not possible to edit.

Summary

Master Maker 3D Ultimate is a 3D platformer and level creator game with a Mario Maker-style feel to it. It features big blocky graphics and a full 3D world with 360 camera control and two zoom-in options. The game has three modes – adventure, create level, and bonus. It’s a 1.97GB download and comes with both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game.

The gameplay involves killing enemies by hitting them with a hammer or jumping on their heads. Players can collect coins, break crates, and hit checkpoints. The game is very fun and accessible to play, with a basic platforming system that provides good comfort and fun. There’s a heart life bar system in play, and players can pick up a boomerang hammer to take out enemies and break crates.

The level creator is deep, but what stands out is how easy it is to make something good. It uses a grid-based system, and there are handy shortcuts where you can swap themes with a button press whenever you want. There are some issues with the game, such as annoying talking when pausing the game, enemies moving freely through walls, and some platform elements not working well due to camera control and angles. The adventure mode is basic and feels kind of pointless, as it doesn’t matter if you collect any coins or kill any enemies. The music is not great, and the controls cannot be remapped. There are way too many adventure levels, and you need to finish them all to unlock the bonus mode. When building a level, it’s a one-time thing meaning you cannot save and come back, once you leave it is not possible to edit. The game offers a very easy Platinum trophy.

Overall, Master Maker 3D Ultimate is a fun and accessible game with a deep but user-friendly level creator. However, it does have some issues that could be improved upon. It is very much an entry-level Mario Maker-esque game that attempts a 3D spin with very mixed reactions.
