Summary

Roll 7 has been performing miracles ever since their first game all the way back then, OlliOlli World is the pinnacle, the collection of all their hard work and K ow ledge they have learned and earned over the years. See OlliOlli is a 2D Skateboarding game that is as simple or as deep as any other Skateboarding game, I won’t mention names because it’s not fair to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. OlliOlli World is just fan fucking tastic from the first time you hear the wheels moving on your controller to the signature smooth controls, despite not playing a game in the series for a while, it was so nostalgic, and familiar to jump into the world and just get on with it. The World in question is split into areas and each one will introduce a handful of tricks and mechanics alongside an introductory tutorial session. Of course, all these tricks and mechanics are available straight from the off if you know them and the game won’t discount you for knowing and using them! Every level has a dozen or so main sessions with a handful of optional extra bonus sessions. In a session, you can progress by just finishing the level or you can earn extra rewards by doing the multiple extra tasks and of course the now traditional styling of 3 score goals in each level. I loved that the game never hamstrung you or halt progress, I was able to just go through and have a hell of a time just finishing levels and then afterward going back and trying the extra/score goals. In-game it’s still 2D but it has ramp transitions into the background and foreground parts of the level so it gives a feel of a 3D game. Busting out tricks as mentioned is as silky smooth as ever and can be as easy or as complicated as you want. It’s just you cannot find anyone better at nailing how satisfying a run is than Roll 7 and their OlliOlli games, just flying through a level grinding, and jumping around has never ever felt so fucking good, I go on about it but the satisfaction is real. Honestly think that this is not only a game of the year contender but it is one of if not the best skateboard game and that’s saying something.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
