Sands of Salzaar, X.D. Network and Han-Squirrel Studio’s indie open-world RPG featuring large- and small-scale real-time strategy action, continues to grow in Steam Early Access. A massive new update earlier this fall introduced full English language support to make the game even more accessible to players in North America and Europe, and it now stands at a “Very Positive” rating on Steam with close to 12,000 user reviews. Now the team is back with a new development roadmap outlining new content and enhancements planned for the game over the next phase of early access.

Sands of Salzaar lets you build up a mighty army from a single unit and lead it into battle against enemy forces in real-time. The Old Empire has fallen, leaving rival cities to compete for control of a vast desert land in an epic story brought to life with unique hand-drawn visuals. Customize your hero as a warrior, sorcerer, beastmaster and more, pick your soldiers and their abilities, and choose which factions to side with and against. Every playthrough offers new challenges and experiences.

Coming in November, Sands of Salzaar’s next major update will continue to improve multiplayer combat, as well as further develop the game’s quest system and map variety to make progression in the open world even more satisfying. The update will also feature new community modding tool optimizations. Additional updates over the coming months will introduce controller support, a new official PvP map, new player character and storylines, improvements to AI and siege gameplay, and more.

There are now over 500 mods for Sands of Salzaar in Steam Workshop, featuring custom characters, maps, challenges, multiplayer options, and even completely reimagined gameplay and story overhauls. Since the launch of the game’s English localization, English language modders have already begun developing and releasing new creations to the community, while many of the most popular existing mods have been steadily rolling out their own English language updates.
