Summary

A remake or a Re Pac of you were, Pac man is back and shinier than ever, I never played the game the first time round so this is all new to me. For those like me or who have a bad memory, Pac-Man World is a platforming game in a 2.5D world that allows you to move in an almost 3D environment but maintaining the side on perspective, you collect pellets as you do in Pac man and you can throw these at enemies to kill them whereas power pellets (the big ones) will make you grow and then you can eat ghosts that (surprise surprise) you did in the Pac man games! To kill enemies normally you have a butt slam so you can actually do something new! Mix it power-ups to change yourself into other materials like metal, it means you can and will need to change up your attacks. The levels themselves are very much a platformer with slight puzzle elements, at points you will trigger a section that will have ghost pellets and power pellets for bonus scores. You need to collect fruit in order to open doors and find segments to heal. It’s all very familiar with the remixed Pac-man songs and sound effects, it’s comfort gaming as it doesn’t require much brain power, and it’s got just enough to entertain. My only real gripes are the levels feel too long mostly because it will have you going back and forth collecting fruit and opening doors, the checkpoints/respawn points are sporadic and usually have you doing a section over and over. Despite all its mod cons, I felt like it still played like an old game, maybe it was just the general flow of the game rather than anything else but you could tell it was a game that came before. Like I say though Pac Man World does a good job of Pac-Man in a different setting and the gameplay is very safe and comforting, the odd part will frustrate but overall it’s just a good laid-back experience especially if you’ve not seen Pac-Man in another game like this before.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
