Plague Breaker Preview (Steam Early Access)
For this Plague Breaker Preview, we play a retro roguelike platformer with heavy RPG elements. Pick your class and ascend a procedurally generated castle filled with undead monsters and corrupted plague doctors. Level up your character and find items, weapons, and traders along the way before taking on each floor’s boss.

- 2D view.
- Action-platformer gameplay.
- Shields are used to stop projectiles but the gimmick with it is the shield works as a timed energy so you can’t just hold the button down.
- Fluid grabbing and climbing on ledges animation.
- Auto equips better gear.
- You can see enemy health bars.
- Move around with the stick or d-pad.
- Simple hack-and-slash combat.
- You can have up to two items/abilities equipped at one time.
- Metroidvania elements.
- The game is roguelike based in that you lose everything when you die and restart with the levels and enemies randomized.
- Coins can drop from enemies or within a chest and be used to buy items.
- You can sell-unwanted loot/items.
- Camera zoom affects how much you can see.
- The map fills in as you play.
- Minimap in the corner shows the layout of the current room.
Plague Breaker Preview Cons:
- The mouse cursor stays on the screen when using a controller.
- The menus feel a bit clunky.
- Colors used in the menus can make the reading text really hard.
- A fourth locked-out difficulty shows.
- You cannot interact with anyone by pressing up on the stick and instead, you have to use the d-pad.
- Feels a bit basic in the fact that you seem to get the same weapons and items over and over.
- Boss fights feel a bit cheap and repetitive.
- From what I can see there is no one thing that is kept and carried over to new runs.
- On the map, it shows loot even though you have collected it.
- The fluidity and ease of climbing ledges can be really detrimental.
