Review: Anomaly 2 PS4

Commander! After the last war, aliens have come back to Earth and taken over all of the major cities! It is your duty to take back what belongs to people. The task is not easy as the human forces have been divided and those who managed to find their peers created convoys. Your convoy is called Yukon and it is your duty to survive and fight off the aliens.

Pros:

  • Graphics are actually really good with HD levels of detail. Explosions look so good that even Michael Bay man wood over it!
  • Two default control schemes but you can re assign the buttons to your liking.
  • Multiple language support.
  • Game play is like Tower defense meets RTS with a bit of other genres thrown in. You play as a general who can run around freely. you set up routes and drop abilities like healing and bombs. You do not directly fire or interact that much with enemies. instead you just have a more on the ground command postion for your troops. But your most important role is to plan the route at the beginning of the level for your troops to follow. You can change the route at any point in game.
  • You can skip cut scenes.
  • 15 levels in the campaign.
  • Opening tutorial section split over multiple levels.
  • in depth hints/tips/gameplay information. This covers single player and multiplayer.
  • Four difficulties to choose upon level setup. Casual,Normal,Hardcore and Nightmare.
  • Full platinum trophy list.
  • You can speed the game up by pressing R1.
  • End of level stat screen with ranking judged on a bronze, silver and gold. you have 3 areas that earn a rank and also get a full breakdown on time taken, enemies killed etc.
  • Controls are surprisingly simple giving you fluid accessible game play.
  • You have a global score.
  • Full online leader board support with filters.
  • Troops/vehicles auto engage enemies and follow your path to the letter. you can morph your vehicles to adept to the battlefield.
  • Find and destroy items for cash which is then used to buy/upgrade troops.
  • can replay missions.
  • Destroyed enemies drop power ups or abilities replenishment.
  • The tac map that you set up the routes on is actually really cool looking. it shows where you can put the route, enemy locations and is all presented in an almost VR mission wire-frame view.
  • Bringing up the map or abilities pauses the game.
  • Good soundtrack with some good voice work.
  • Really atmospheric game with a lot of Command and Conquer vibes through out it.
  • The overall presentation is high with it being presented as an almost action film.
  • 1.7GB file size download.
  • multiplayer allows you to search for public games or setup friends only matches. You play as either the good guys or the bad guys.

Cons:

  • Text is really small.
  • When the game tells you about something and what button to press, it just says press corresponding button and not the actual button name.
  • Opening few missions are really basic which is fine but they are really slow and repetitive.
  • If you go to your PS4 dash and then back to the game you get a connecting to PSN prompt and sometimes can take a while.
  • When it all kicks off it can get confusing as to where you actually are.

In Summary, This game surprised me. i was expecting a slow tactical less action romp. instead i got a fast paced tactical lite action blast em up. i love all the menus and how the tac map looks like VR missions going for a wire-frame graphics option. the game is very playable and you soon lose track of time. I went in not expecting a lot and came out loving it so it is a case of you shouldn’t dismiss it until you have at least watched a few videos of it running. My surprise hit of the month!.
