Review: In Space We Brawl

In Space We Brawl is a local multiplayer, twin stick shooter with more than 100+ different combinations of spaceships and weapons. Up to four player can join a fight, picking one of the 11 vessels and equipping it with 11 tools of space destruction.

Pros:

  • Graphics are really good, Coming at ya with a old school retro feel to it all.
  • Sound effects including the menus come through the DS4 pad.
  • Funny voice work with a real Saturday morning kids TV show vibe to it.
  • Gameplay is fast and frantic shooting. Fly off the screen to re appear on the opposite side, Spin your ship 360 degrees and kills enemy AI bots flying around.
  • Shoot asteroids in level as they release power ups.
  • Nice selection of game changing power ups and worth collecting.
  • Simple control scheme that is easy to explain, execute and learn.
  • Bounty system: each player can place a bounty on him/her or someone else. If he/she survive with bounties, they are claimed as points; if he/she kills a player with bounties, they are claimed as points
  • Unlock ships/weapons.
  • Challenge mode is your single player style mode where you have set goals and can unlock new toys.
  • handful of ships to pick from, Each with unique characteristics, stats and colors.
  • Twin stick shooter inspired deathmatch is the best description of the game.
  • Music is really good.
  • Handful of levels which have some really clever level design choices.
  • Small download size.
  • cheap price point.
  • Trophy support but only 12 odd trophies to collect.
  • 3 multiplayer games modes: Championship, Tournament, Team.
  • 8 battlegrounds, with 3 maps each.
  • Weapons can be combined in a way that means you have 100s of different ways to use them!
  • Local co op is the games main mode and where the game truly comes to life. Have up to four players in a game and let the madness begin!

Cons:

  • No online which to some is a deal breaker, But to be honest it is stated as a local only game so….
  • No real mode for practicing against AI or just have a mess about.
  • The single player part is very slow paced and lacks any real variety.

In Summary, For how little you pay, it is a tidy little game and worth a purchase straight away for anyone who has friends round a lot. The local play is brilliant fun. Single player is not vast enough to warrant a full price purchase. In short, if you have friends with pads its a must buy, if not then umm maybe try it out via share play otherwise its a no. Share play could well save this game and enhance sales. It has a lot of good ideas and does them well so theres your reason for purchase.
