Rogue Explorer Review (Xbox Series S)
In our Rogue Explorer Review, we take on this Pixel Art Hack & Slash Roguelike. Explore randomly generated dungeons in a roguelike action experience. Hack and slash enemies, acquire loot, and obtain enhancements to your existing equipment.
Rogue Explorer Review Pros:
- Nice pixel art graphics.
- 275.5MB download size.
- 1000 Gamerscore.
- Opening tutorial level.
- Customize characters with hairstyle and colors.
- Earn EXP to level up and pick one of three upgrade choices.
- Levels are timed.
- Platform action gameplay.
- Kill enemies by jumping on them or attacking with your floating weapon.
- Coins drop from enemies and is the currency of the game for upgrading and crafting.
- Materials are found in the game and is used with coins to craft and upgrade items.
- The main hub where you can do crafting, upgrading, leveling up abilities, and select levels.
- When you die you start again from level one.
- The game has its own list of ongoing quests that grant rewards in the hub.
- Abilities tree grows as you unlock new buffs and passives.
- Five levels of loot rarity.
- You can carry two weapons, one to attack with and one that auto-attacks.
- The loop is despite playing the same levels a lot, you get better and quicker at killing enemies and progressing.
- Can sell unwanted loot.
- Easy Gamerscore.
- Each level or area is a set of smaller levels and you get just one health bar and you bank gold and materials in between them.
Rogue Explorer Review Cons:
- Very basic tutorial.
- Not a fan of the music, it doesn’t quite match the game or its atmosphere.
- No explanation for death and what happens.
- No notification of completing the quests.
- Merge items have no explanation.
- Slow to start.
- Little in the way of replay value once you finish the game.
- Japanese or Chinese text in places.
- The arrow to show you where to go is annoying and in the way.
- Enemies are just reskinned every new area.
