Samurai Warriors 4 DX Review (Steam)

Samurai Warriors 4 DX Review, The sparks of destiny ignite in this rich depiction of the Warring States period, featuring 55 different officers. A tale based on historical events unfolds in two separate parts. While the regional stories focus on officers from regions across the land, such as Kyushu and Shikoku, the story of unification details the events leading up to the end of the Warring States period. Unlike previous “SAMURAI WARRIORS” titles, this game features battles between each faction, allowing for a more dramatic depiction of the relationships between officers. Experience firsthand the convictions, conflicts, and complex feelings of these officers.

  • Really hard to read the story snippets whilst in-game or dealing with the action.
  • Being able to read the map is the true battle initially.
  • The grunts in the game are just mindless fodder and are not that animated.
  • Chronicle mode only lets you play with a created character.
  • Swapping characters involves pressing the pause button first which is less than ideal.
  • Never sure when the game has been saved.

Summary

Samurai Warriors 4 DX boasts awesome graphics and a full 3D world with 360-degree camera control, contributing to a visually stunning experience. It offers full controller support and mouse and keyboard support, with the ability to remap controls for both. The game includes all 150 previously released DLCs, providing a wealth of content.

The character creator option is a standout feature, allowing you to create up to 20 characters and use them in Chronicle and Free mode. You can even upload your own portrait images for the crest, Musou Kanji, and portrait.

The game offers three modes – Story Mode, Free Mode, and Chronicle Mode, each providing a unique gameplay experience. Particularly, the Chronicle Mode allows you to play your own character and make your own adventure.

The game’s performance is fast and fluid, with hardly any hitches or slowdowns. The combat is insanely fast, and when you start getting into a flow, it feels badass and looks amazing.

Despite its many strengths, the game does have a few drawbacks. The graphics settings are not the most extensive and are hidden away. The mount choice goes to the stats and not the one you actually want.

In the early game, there are a lot of pop-ups, and there’s a lot to take in. It can be really hard to read the story snippets while in-game or dealing with the action. The grunts in the game are just mindless fodder and are not that animated.

Chronicle Mode only lets you play with a created character, and swapping characters involves pressing the pause button first, which is less than ideal. Also, it’s never clear when the game has been saved.

Overall, Samurai Warriors 4 DX is a game that offers a lot for your money. With its awesome graphics, full controller support, character creator option, and three game modes, it provides a rich and immersive gaming experience. However, it does have a few areas that could use improvements, such as the graphics settings, mount choice, and the clarity of when the game has been saved. Despite these drawbacks, the game’s strengths far outweigh its weaknesses, making it a worthwhile Samurai Warriors port and offering a lot for your money and time.
