Seafrog Review Pros:

  • Decent pixel art cartoon graphics.
  • 674.32MB download size.
  • Full controller support.
  • Graphics settings – resolution, and v-sync.
  • 3 save slots.
  • You can remap the controls.
  • In-game cutscenes and interactions.
  • Skateboarding platformer gameplay.
  • Tutorial pop-ups using really cool presentations. They use Game Boy-like consoles to show the controls and video.
  • You can at anytime jump on your board and pull off tricks, jump, grind, etc.
  • The game is surprisingly easy to get into, the control of the board is fast and fluid, and very accessible.
  • Plays in 2D but has a 3D backdrop and game world.
  • The game is split up into ships, and you find cannons so you can shoot yourself onto a new ship.
  • Tighten up loose bolts to stop water coming in, when on the bolt you spin around and can aim where to come off.
  • Build up and use boost to go faster and get more airtime.
  • Collect gold from around the level.
  • Find hidden bonus areas and rewards.
  • Breakable objects cover the level.
  • The flow you can nail is satisfying as you jump from a ramp onto a rail then a wall glide, it all goes and looks awesome.
  • The map fills in as you play, with each boat showing a completion percentage and missing collectibles.
  • How To menu fills in with controls and abilities as you discover them.
  • A great little main character.
  • Insert the gold orbs you find into furnaces to fuel the cannon.
  • Eat flies to regain health.
  • The cannon requires you to set the distance and aim.
  • Respawn/checkpoints can be hit.
  • Fast loading and respawn time.
  • A lot of fun to play.
  • Collect manuals and mods to unlock new abilities and moves.
  • Unlock fast travel points.
  • Collect keys and cogs to open doors and break down locks.
  • You may have sequences where you have a time limit to do a load of combos for the score.

Seafrog Review Cons:

  • No Steam achievements.
  • Doesn’t have voice work and instead just uses text.
  • The game is not always good at telling you the mechanics or why something is happening.
  • Bare minimum graphics options.
  • Not all cutscenes can be skipped or fast-forwarded.
  • Aiming the cannon is hard to do more because you cannot see where it’s actually sending you.
  • Until you start getting the new control upgrades, the character can be a bit fiddly in more precise sections.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
