Sonic Robo Blast 2 has been in development since 1998 and recreates classic Sega Genesis-era Sonic gameplay in 3D because of a modified version of the Doom Legacy source port of Doom. The gameplay features 3D platforming with multiple branching paths encouraging players to explore and find secrets. Levels are set up similar to the classic games: 2 acts of normal levels followed by a 3rd act, which is a boss fight.
The game also offers players the chance to play as Tails or Knuckles offering different abilities to explore and conquer levels. the same as the games of old, multiplayer is also present in the form of online co-op where a friend tags along in single player from their own PC, split-screen races, capture the flag, and more.
Sonic Robo Blast 2 has been growing a bigger following over the previous couple of years because the game has received major upgrades bringing the game to an almost complete state. the game has especially found a home in major speed-running communities being featured at events like SpeedGaming.
