Summary

Space Crew is a strategy game come man-management sim. You control a crew aboard your ship and must take on missions, level up, and create your ultimate team. It all starts out with tutorials explaining how the ever so busy Hud works, the mechanics at play like fires, combat, and reviving all whilst giving you a dummy run mission. Once out of the tutorial you can then start playing around with the game like creating your own team thanks to a robust customisation tool and loot/rewards drops meaning you can spec out crew members how you want. I love the banter between everyone and how it feels like a little family, the game itself is one I’ve seen a lot but they make it easier for new players by having the game simplify a lot of tasks, you can click a fire extinguisher and say put out a fire, the game will then send your crew member over saving you the hassle of clicking on it. In fact, the game lets the characters just live out their role with minor interpretations from you. You from what I experienced are there to just deal with catastrophes and emergencies. I frequently left the game just running and let my crew handle things and I would only look up if I heard the sirens, obviously, this got more frequent as time went on but even then you can spec the crew to minimize it again! Missions themselves have variety and the whole idea os cool but it’s just a hard slog mostly due to the pacing, everything can get better but only if you are willing to dedicate a lot of time to it and I just couldn’t overlook the fact it was eating up time with very little in the way of pay off. The reason why the Steam version gets a higher score over the Playstation 4 version is simple, The game is a lot easier to learn and play using a mouse and keyboard and that made the game more accessible and a lot more fun meaning longer play sessions and experiences. Other than that it’s the same game.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
