Space Gladiators Review (PlayStation 4)
For our Space Gladiators Review, we play a 2D hand-drawn rogue-lite platformer following a bunch of captives fighting their way out of a planet prison. Defeat hordes of aliens in the gladiatorial arenas and earn your freedom!
Space Gladiators Review Pros:
- Nice cartoon graphics.
- 235.9MB download size.
- Platinum trophy.
- Own in-game achievements called challenges.
- Works on Playstation 5.
- Game settings – can be turned on and off individually – boss intros, zone intros, tutorial prompts, display numbers, enemy health bar, cool down bar, telegraphs, quick drops, optimize coins, show timer, and challenge help.
- Can rebind controls.
- Global settings – language, shadows, screenshake slider, freeze frames, blood quantity slider, particles, Hud style (bars/icons), minima, and waffles.
- The discoveries menu shows all encountered enemies and collected items.
- Roguelike Splatformer gameplay.
- Has a Binding of Isaac feel to it.
- Opening tutorial section.
- Moves fast and is very fluid with its commands and movement.
- Loadout – offensive ability, outfit, doll, and defensive ability.
- Run based.
- End of a run breakdown showing time, exp gained, enemies killed, etc.
- Unlock new characters each having unique stats and abilities.
- Playable characters have their own difficulty level attached to them.
- It Plays really well.
- The mini-map shows what to expect in each room as do the signs.
- Choose your own path in the level.
- Pick up powers or food to heal.
- 2D perspective.
- Pick up coins from enemies and break objects in the world.
- Shop to buy items to change your stats or give new abilities and attacks.
- Challenge room fights allow you to pick one of three enemy choices. You get told how many enemies and the reward.
- Earn EXP and level up for Rewards. Each character has its own exp bar and level.
- The game’s achievements pop up at the end of a run or during it depending on what it’s for.
- Demon altars allow you to buy items with your health.
- Very addictive.
- Simple to learn.
- Fast loading times.
- Meet a wide range of characters that will offer items or state swaps and much more.
- Coins also act as exp.
Space Gladiators Review Cons:
- Levels do feel claustrophobic.
- The screen can fill up really fast and make it harder to see yourself.
- Not always sure where you are when first entering a room.
- Takes a while to get going.
- Gets crazy and very reflex-heavy later on.
- The game doesn’t reveal itself for a while.
