- It’s not the greatest introduction.
- At times you grab something and it won’t let you let go.
- Depending on your thing, this is a game that doesn’t have a set list and the story flows to it, it’s more a set of mini-games with very minimal connections to each other.

Summary
SpongeBob SquarePants: The Patrick Star Game offers a delightful cartoon aesthetic that captures the essence of the beloved show. The game is a manageable 2.26GB download and includes both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions, complete with a Platinum trophy for dedicated players. Accessibility options are robust, featuring text language settings, auto-advance dialogue, on-screen direction indicators, and player control overlays. The controller settings are customizable, allowing players to remap buttons, invert axes, and adjust sensitivity sliders. The gameplay revolves around character actions, with in-game cutscenes and interactions that enhance the narrative. The game begins with a basic tutorial on controls, followed by helpful pop-ups as you progress.
The massive 3D game world of Bikini Bottom is fully explorable with 360-degree camera control, offering an open-world experience where players can take on quests by interacting with characters. Hidden collectible mayo jars and area-based optional objectives called feats add to the exploration. Button prompts appear when needed, and the game features fully voiced characters. Players can drive various vehicles or hitch rides on buses and taxis, adding to the sense of freedom. Balloons scattered throughout the game can slow your fall or make you float, and at any time, you can ragdoll and roll around for fun. The delivery dash mini-game, where you deliver meals as quickly as possible, adds variety. Walking near points of interest triggers flyovers, and you can pick up and throw nearly anything, including leaf blowers, vacuums, and fruit-shooting guns, which contribute to the game’s chaotic fun.
The game is filled with humor and offers numerous mini-games, from racing to shooting to working in the kitchen. Players can unlock and wear different costumes, adding a layer of customization. However, the game’s performance is not without issues, including screen tearing and slowdown, which can make precision platforming challenging. There is sometimes a slight delay in button presses, and the AI can be frustratingly cheap in some events. The introduction is not the best, and there are occasional glitches, such as being unable to let go of objects. The game lacks a cohesive story, instead offering a series of loosely connected mini-games. The map is helpful, showing all points of interest and activities, and players can set custom markers. A reset world button in the menu is a useful feature.
Overall, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Patrick Star Game stands out among SpongeBob titles for its freedom and variety. It captures the show’s atmosphere well, from locations to characters. Feats and quests can be pinned for easy tracking, and fans will appreciate the ability to roleplay in various scenarios, such as becoming a taxi driver or chasing down criminals in a cop car. Despite its performance issues, the game provides a relaxing and entertaining experience, especially for fans of the series.
