Publishing label No More Robots and Dropsy studio Tendershoot have today revealed Hypnospace Outlaw, a ’90s internet simulator in which players trawl and police an alternate reality internet, keeping this very different online experience free from bullying, copyright theft and vandalism.

Set in the year 1999, Hypnospace Outlaw asks you to scour the Hypnospace, checking out a wide variety of weird and wonderful websites, keeping an eye on your work email, and downloading a plethora of apps that may or may not be useful. Think Geocities: The Game, and you’re on the right track.

As part of your job as a Hypnospace Enforcer, you’ll be tasked with keeping the internet clear of wrongdoers, with reports and rewards coming direct from the Hypnospace Patrol Department to your inbox.

And in your spare time, you can customize your HypnOS desktop however you see fit, with a variety of downloads, wallpapers, screen savers and helper bots to keep you company.

Working with game community platform Discord, the teams also today launched one of the most ambitious Discord servers to date.

The official Hypnospace Discord server is essentially the ’90s internet contained within a server, and allows for anyone to create and share their own “webpage” directly within the server.

Joining the Hypnospace Discord server is also the way that players can sign up for the Hypnospace beta, happening later this year.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
