The game has a download size of 15.51GB and supports Steam achievements. It offers full controller support, and you can remap controls for both players. The game also provides the option to choose PlayStation or Xbox button icons. Keyboard settings are customizable as well.

The graphics settings are comprehensive, allowing adjustments for resolution, screen setting, v-sync, anti-aliasing, brightness, aspect ratio, and character visual improvements. Players can unlock and customize player cards, character colors, and announcer characters.

The training mode offers free training, tutorials, and missions. The network (online) mode provides various ways to play, including casual, ranked, and player modes. It also features character selection, online leaderboards, replays, and a replay board to watch other people’s replays. The Vs mode includes vs player, vs CPU, watch, and replays.

The single-player mode offers five modes: Arcade, score attack, time attack, survival, and mission. In the Arcade mode, you can pick a character and play through their story. Each character has a full bio and stats. The game starts with twenty-three characters, with a twenty-fourth character available to unlock. In the single-player mode, you can pick any character, adjust button controls, and select the color scheme.

The Mission mode involves performing specific combos in preset scenarios. The game offers five difficulty levels, and the round count for Arcade mode can be set from 1 to 3. Character conversation text can be set to instant or normal, with options for auto scroll and skip. The stories in Arcade mode are told through voiced character interactions.

All characters look fantastic and unique, from their sheer size to how they move. During a match, you get pop-ups like counter and recovery. Each character shows your best score for each mode with that character. IP, the credit earned in the game, can be used to unlock some items in the gallery and player cards.

Even as a complete beginner and not a very skilled fighting game player, I was able to pull off combos and special moves. The stories in Arcade mode are just character interactions and occasional bits of still art. Arcade mode feels like a set of matches against random people.

However, the online mode is very hard to get into long-term, especially for beginners. You have to download replays to view them which is just a little niggle. Steam achievements were not popping up until the game was closed. There were a few online disconnects. The online mode is quite plain and does not offer a lot of variation or long-term appeal outside of die-hard fans. Despite these issues, UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH II Sys: Celes offers a rich and engaging fighting game experience, and even if you don’t know the series I found I could get into it and hold my own, Well until I went online anyway.
