Review: Heroes Trials (Nintendo Switch)

Heroes Trials brings the best elements of traditional RPGs and delivers a compact and intense experience that takes less than 4 hours to complete, but provides you with a satisfaction that can normally only be obtained with a longer game in the genre. Heroes Trials achieves that by excluding all repetitive quests, fillers, empty events and grinding.

Pros:

  • Heroes Trials has chunky graphics.
  • 481MB Download size.
  • Heroes Trials has simple controls.
  • Condensed JRPG gameplay.
  • Two characters- One melee and one ranged magic.
  • Basic tutorial.
  • Easter eggs to other classic games.
  • All trials are time-based.
  • Simple combat.
  • Levels are presented as short time-based events.
  • You can instantly swap between the two characters at will.
  • Heroes Trials lets you play how you want.
  • Loads of hidden secrets.
  • Loot em up.
  • Ideal game for speedrunners.

Cons:

  • Lazy not that helpful tutorial.
  • No touchscreen support.
  • No help/guidance.
  • Very basic game mechanics.
  • Unrewarding loot and combat.
  • Little replayability.
  • Heroes Trials just has no real hook.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
