Review: Rym 9000 (PlayStation 4)

Rym 9000 is a hyperkinetic shooter inspired by Akira, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Guxt. A treasure-hunting journey to the Moon developed by Sonoshee and composed by Roex. A unique high-octane experience conceived to stimulate your senses and make your eyes and ears bleed!

Pros:

  • Big chunky pixel graphics.
  • 277.6MB download size.
  • Shmup gameplay.
  • Platinum trophy.
  • Tate mode- left, right and off.
  • 3 wallpaper choices.
  • Focus mode on/off.
  • Effects on/off.
  • Simple one button shooting.
  • Rym 9000 has its own in-game goals (achievements) that once completed, reveal lore and story aspects.
  • One life runs.
  • Effects are that of epileptic levels.
  • Rym 9000 has leaderboard support.
  • Instant restarts.
  • Rym 9000 is really easy to learn.
  • Gorgeous backdrops.
  • Score displayed at the end.
  • Pick up power-ups to change shot types.
  • Hypnotic soundtrack.
  • Rym 9000 features a no HUD, no distraction policy.
  • Just pulls you in.

Cons:

  • A couple of blue screen lockups.
  • No tutorial.
  • Rym 9000 has little explanation.
  • Hard to see enemies coming in from the top and bottom.
  • Basic.
  • No video options or screen choices.
