Review: Warpthrough (Steam)

WarpThrough is a fast action-platformer with unique arcade-inspired gameplay and an interesting twist to combat: You have to stop moving before you can attack. A balance between keeping the ever-appearing monsters in check and getting to that next portal.

Pros:

  • Nice graphics.
  • 314mb download size.
  • Steam achievements.
  • Controller support.
  • 3 save slots.
  • Action-platformer gameplay.
  • 3 modes-story/weekly/arcade.
  • Graphics-Resolution/full screen and graphics quality preset.
  • 3 difficulties-easy/medium/hard.
  • Unlock 7 further difficulties.
  • 2-4 player local co-op support.
  • Multiple choice interactions.
  • Stay still to attack.
  • Fast-paced platforming.
  • Sloid responsive controls.
  • Gameplay-you have to avoid ever spawning enemies and collect portals to find and rescue people. You can kill enemies of you like.
  • House-your hub where you can go back to previous levels, change character.
  • Every character has their own unique attacks.
  • As you collect portals you change the level and color.

Cons:

  • No tutorial.
  • Music is repetitive.
  • It takes a while to get used to the mechanics.
  • A short story that is only a couple of hours.
  • Difficulty spikes.
  • It starts to feel samey.
  • Not that memorable.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
