ABSURDIKA: Rebuild Review Pros

  • Decent graphics.
  • 357.9MB download size.
  • Platinum trophy.
  • Action platformer gameplay.
  • Tutorial signs as you play.
  • 2D game world.
  • You are armed with a chainsaw that can kill enemies up close and has x amount of charges, where you shoot out blades for ranged combat.
  • Big boss encounters that Grant new abilities.
  • Level select screen, and you can replay levels.
  • The soundtrack is good, a bit of everything, and it always has the right soundtrack for the right moment.
  • Puzzle elements are in the game and are tied to crystals, as hitting one will clear a crystal wall, but you may have to hit the crystals in a certain order or miss one out to open the right route.
  • The jump is a bit floaty, but the controls are responsive and tight.
  • A lot of platforming action, so if you like that, you are in luck.
  • It is a fun game to play and is surprisingly difficult with spikes being an automatic death, deaths being a level restart, it all adds up to quite the challenge.
  • Red telephone boxes act as instant transporters across the levels.
  • When you die, you go into another world and have to make it to the portal so you can carry on playing.

ABSURDIKA Rebuild’s protagonist enters a glowing portal post-death, marking a surreal shift in the game’s cycle of revival.

ABSURDIKA: Rebuild Review Cons

  • Little replay value.
  • No game or accessibility options.
  • The Crystals mechanic is fine until you get to a point like in level 5, where you just cannot work out which crystal does which, and it’s a slog through the level to try a new route or path each time, and it’s just a real buzzkill.
  • I mentioned the floaty jump, and for the first few levels, it’s a case of getting used to it.
  • Enemies can and will move to points where you can’t move or get to them.
  • The spikes ‘ death is a real pain in the ass; it’s a thing, but I hate the thing.

Summary

ABSURDIKA Rebuild – The Thrills and Highlights of Gameplay:
ABSURDIKA Rebuild drops players into a surreal chainsaw-fueled fever dream, slicing through 10 retro-drenched levels full of psychological torment and platforming chaos. You wield a close-range chainsaw with limited blade charges for ranged kills, tackle big boss encounters to earn new abilities, and solve crystal-based puzzles that gate progression through cryptic mechanics. Tight controls and responsive movement underpin floaty jumps, while the action is tough, unforgiving, and laced with instant-death spikes. Level select makes replaying easier, tutorial signs guide you subtly, and the pulse-pounding soundtrack elevates the mood at every turn.

ABSURDIKA Rebuild – Where It Falls Short: Key Negatives:
ABSURDIKA Rebuild struggles with replay value and lacks accessibility or gameplay settings. The crystal puzzle mechanic becomes frustrating and aimless, especially in level 5, where trial-and-error dampens the momentum. Some enemy placements make them unreachable, and the floaty jump takes a few levels to adjust to. Spikes are an instant death trap, forcing full-level restarts and sapping enjoyment in later stages.

ABSURDIKA Rebuild – Immersive Story and Narrative Elements:
The game presents a fractured reality where fear is weaponised and sanity is rebuilt with every slash. A cryptic narrative flows through alien landscapes and hostile minds, blurring fiction and fury into a haunting journey. It’s surreal, unsettling, and rewards those who lean into its feverish descent.

ABSURDIKA Rebuild – Visual and Performance Aspects:
Graphics hold up well within the game’s retro aesthetic, balancing grit with style across its 2D environments. At 357.9MB, ABSURDIKA Rebuild is lightweight yet atmospheric, pushing its twisted world with solid visual direction and a varied, well-timed soundtrack. Performance remains tight, with no major issues disrupting gameplay or immersion.

ABSURDIKA Rebuild – Overall Verdict: Is It Worth Playing?:
ABSURDIKA Rebuild is a brutally tough chainsaw symphony packed with psychological grit and retro flair. The core gameplay is rewarding for action-platforming fans who don’t mind trial-and-error mechanics and minimal polish. While rough edges and difficulty spikes may frustrate casual players, its cryptic design, eerie soundtrack, and existential tension offer something uniquely intense for the right audience.

Back of the Box Quotes:
“ABSURDIKA Rebuild turns chaos into combat. Your chainsaw doesn’t just slice, it rewrites sanity.”
