Our Alan Wake Remastered Review has us playing as troubled author Alan Wake who is on a desperate search for his missing wife. A horror story he has supposedly written is coming true, and his grip on reality is threatened as he confronts a hostile presence. The tense, episodic story is packed with twists, cliffhangers, and intense combat, where it takes more than bullets to banish the darkness.

  • Platinum trophy.
  • You get both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game.
  • Graphics – Hud, brightness slider, motion blur, and film grain.
  • 3 difficulties – Easy, normal, and nightmare.
  • Adventure gameplay.
  • Chapter select.
  • Can Invert axis and sensitivity sliders.
  • Video commentary – on/off.
  • Subtitles (optional) have font size and background opacity sliders.
  • Controller settings – trigger effects, swap the sticks around, and swap shoulder buttons around.
  • Full stats showing everything from kills with each weapon to bird kills, signs found, and how many video games were found.
  • Opening tutorial pop-ups as it sets the story up.
  • You can skip cutscenes.
  • Excellent voice work.
  • Has a Twin Peaks meets Stephen King vibe to it all.

  • Cannot rebind controls.
  • Takes a bit of getting used to the whole light to eradicate the visible darkness then shoot.
  • Cutscenes still look different from the actual gameplay.
  • Robotic animations in places.
  • Does feel clunky in its movement and animations.
