- Audio options – aiming cues, interaction cues, NPC sounds, snap aim, and snap aim hip fire.
- Autosave frequency can be set to – 1,2,3,4,510,15,20,30, and 60.
- You can set the game to pause or not pause when in menus or getting tutorials.
- Tutorials can be set to on/off, repeatable, and the ability for you to dismiss them.
- Five game difficulties – sightseer, investigator, brawler, survivor (recommended), and veteran. These will affect combat, survival, and exploration.
- All three play styles for combat, exploration, and survival can be tweaked with the custom playstyle option.
- In-game cutscenes and full voice work.
- Survival RPG adventure gameplay.
- Tutorial pop-ups as you play.
- Multiple choice encounters with each show if it’s blunt, helpful, etc.
- Amazing atmosphere from the game world to the old-school style cutscenes and voice work.
- When you get new findings you can quickly bring them up on screen.
- A full 3D game world with 360-degree camera control.
- First-person view.
- Everyone can and will play the game differently from the exploration to how you handle interactions and choices.
- Save and load when you want.
- Eight save slots.
- There are seven factions within Atomfall – The Protocol, Druids, Villagers, B.A.R.D, Outlaws, Ferals, and the Thralls. Each hates the other and will attack each other and depending on your actions depend on how they react to you.
- Photo mode.
- You can find resources and materials in the world and search containers and loot enemies.
- The stealth bar lets you do takedowns on enemies.
- Four main areas on the map and each has its own set of leads, landmarks, and more.
- The map will fill in with objective markers and points of interest, you can set markers and place your own stamps.
- Play how you want.
- The scenery and world are just glorious, disgusting in places but glorious.
- Craft in the menu, with a handy show all that can be crafted filter. Learn and earn new recipes as you explore and play the story.
- Find and earn training stimulants. These are used for unlocking new abilities and upgrades for your character.
- Explore self-contained bunkers that act like dungeons. The test will tell you if you have been in there before.
- The pneumatic tube system is the centralized storage option that lets you access it from many places.
- Your heart rate is a key element of the game, running, climbing, and fighting will increase it and cause you to make loads of noise and reduce your accuracy in fighting.
- Trespassing is where you are in a guarded area, getting caught here causes stronger enemies and more of them to appear.
- Collectible comics can be found and viewed.
- I love all the posters and art around, it’s also refreshing to see signs like Bugger off and sod off, which take me back to my dating days.
- Puzzles throughout the game.
- Find and explore full settlements and dwellings.
- You can learn new skills by finding manuals.
- I didn’t follow the story at the start and just went off on my own and had some of the most memorable moments. I advanced in the game and still had an amazing time finding these enclaves, hidden areas, recipes, and more.
- The enemy will react to what you do so shooting them in the arm will have them screaming about how you shot them and they are bleeding badly or I’m gonna get you for that after killing a friend.
- Traps are hidden everywhere and eventually, you can learn a skill to disarm them.
- Pick plants and fibers from the world for crafting, some plants require skill unlocks just to pick them.
- Areas and stories will have leads and when entering an area it will say how many leads are left here.
- The compass at the top of the screen helps with showing objectives.
- The controller vibrates when your heart rate is up.
- Find rumors for finding locations and landmarks within the area.
- You can happen across little skits or scenarios playing out.
- Find classic red telephone boxes and answer the phone for story development and also on tips for progression from an unknown and sinister. Source.
- Unlock the ability to upgrade and improve your weapons, again from the menu.
- Pick up tools to help like a metal detector to find caches and collectible lunboxes, and a signal redirector to change the flow of electricity. Both have a handy pop-up when they can be used.
- Tools and keys etc are usually in a mission but they can also be found out in the world again showing how much the game lets you do as you want.
- Missions can have multiple endings for example I accidentally killed a Vicar on purpose to get his key and then proceeded to butcher everyone in the church. The mission then tied to him started and ended very differently. Don’t worry though a man was tried and found guilty of his murder.
- I also don’t think it’s a British Fallout, it’s more a British take on a game like Generation Zero.
- Six possible endings.
- Find and break Gnomes hidden in the village.
- What I like is how big the village is as it does t initially look that big but then you keep finding new areas.
- The combat can be as easy or as hard as it needs to be and making it harder turns the game into a truly scary survival experience.
- I clocked a playthrough at 12 hours in game.
- The game is best experienced on the higher difficulties but I do recommend playing it on easy first to get used to the game and it’s mechanics.
- Replay value is doing it all in a different way and seeing the different endings.
Atomfall Review Cons:
- You cannot remap the controls.
- When first meeting a feral it’s very matter-of-fact and there is no real problem with your character seeing a feral close-up or even existing.
- Empty containers, bags, etc still show as searchable when empty.
- Learning the stealth is tricky early on as you don’t have a lot of tools at your disposal so it’s hard to see enemies, track them, etc.
- You will get a lot of leads and threads of a mission to track and it’s very overwhelming, you lose track of what is a must-follow and which are optional side affairs.
- Small inventory system.
- The AI is not always amazing with its pathfinding and ability to stay on task.
- At times it feels like the game picks and chooses what level of immersion you get and when it breaks that it’s really frustrating.
- Following maps is tricky underground as the maps you get are all above ground.
- Flame thrower enemies can hit you through walls, crates, and anything else solid and impenetrable.
- Had it where I couldn’t do the final part of the game as it wouldn’t register I had the right part.
- No fast travel or way to travel faster instead it was all on foot.
- The mission descriptions are not always clear.
- Atomfall does not have a new game plus.

Summary
“Atomfall” delivers a visually stunning experience with its breathtaking graphics and immersive atmospheric design, creating a world that is both glorious and grim. The PlayStation 5 Pro Enhanced features make the most of this Survival RPG, showcasing next-gen elements like 3D environments, 360-degree camera control, and seamless gameplay integration between PS4 and PS5. With customization options galore—from accessibility features like subtitles and UI tweaks to gameplay adjustments such as axis inversion and sensitivity sliders—the game ensures players have the freedom to tailor their experience. Its survival mechanics, with elements like heart rate management and resource crafting, heighten the tension, while its story-driven gameplay, complete with multiple-choice interactions and six possible endings, adds depth and replayability.
The game boasts a rich array of features, including a photo mode, pneumatic tube storage system, and detailed crafting options. Exploration is rewarding, with hidden bunkers, collectible items, and rumors leading to new discoveries. Engaging voice work and cutscenes complement the gameplay, and the customization of combat, exploration, and survival through difficulty settings and playstyles ensures versatility for all player types. The “play-how-you-want” philosophy is evident in its non-linear gameplay, allowing players to forge their own path, whether following the story or venturing into uncharted territories. The British charm shines through with quirky details like hidden gnomes, collectible comics, and cheeky posters.
However, “Atomfall” is not without its drawbacks. The game’s overwhelming number of leads and missions can be confusing, while its small inventory system and lack of fast travel slow down progression. Early stealth gameplay feels underwhelming due to limited tools, and AI pathfinding occasionally falters. Certain elements, like flame-thrower enemies attacking through walls or immersion-breaking moments, diminish the experience. Additionally, the absence of control remapping and inconsistent map functionality underground can frustrate players. Bugs, such as the inability to complete the final part of the game, hinder the overall polish.
In summary, “Atomfall” is an ambitious survival RPG that combines a beautifully crafted world with engaging mechanics, offering hours of exploration and choice-driven storytelling. While it stumbles in some areas, its charm and depth make it a memorable experience.
“Explore, survive, and craft your fate in a world as beautiful as it is brutal—’Atomfall’ dares you to leave your mark!”
