Having more random groups of enemies going around in a scouting capacity keeps you on your toes and adds a lot of depth.
The gameplay lets you play how you want, whether that is exploring, taking on the many side missions, or jumping straight into the story. Iley the Ikran is your flying companion that you can summon at any time to attack enemies or navigate the skies. You can even hit blue mists while flying to get a temporary speed boost. On the ground, you’ll find and destroy small enemy bases and fuel depots to stop the fire spread. The map has changed with the fires and ash, and while it’s a small tweak, it makes a massive, impactful feeling to the game, so it doesn’t feel like you are just retreading old ground.

Summary
GOOD STUFF
The graphics are beautiful, and the world feels more alive than ever, with random enemy patrols and scouting groups actually keeping you on your toes. I really appreciate how compact and tight the DLC is; it keeps you busy without dragging you through endless fetch quests. The new third-person view is a great addition, and being able to summon Iley the Ikran for aerial attacks or hitting those speed-boosting mists feels fantastic. The shift to a dark, ash-covered Pandora makes a huge impact, and things like the RDA knife losing its sabotage ability when wet are frustratingly cool details. Plus, having a separate save and a massive skill tree fueled by dog tags gives you plenty of reasons to dive in immediately.
BAD STUFF
There is no real reason to go through the hassle of transferring your main save file over because you don’t get anything for it but some cosmetics. Some of the set pieces and boss fights are drawn out and use way too much scripting, which is a total annoyance. Trying to interact with things in the jungle can be a pain with the vines and ledge grabbing not always registering. You aren’t going to see many new enemy types here; it is mostly just the base game again, but with a better map layout. Also, the quest management can get overwhelming when the main story starts branching off, and if you miss a prompt, you’ll be digging through menus to figure out what you’re actually supposed to be doing.

From The Ashes is a tighter, meaner slice of Pandora that trades the vibrant jungle vibes for a scorched earth revenge story that actually works. While the mission structure is improved and the world feels more reactive, it still suffers from some of the same clunky ledge-grabbing and scripted boss fights found in the base game. It’s a solid addition for those who want more combat and a more focused experience, especially with the excellent new atmospheric shift. If you want to see Pandora burn and have a blast doing it, this is worth the download.
