Summary

Behemoth offers a delightful blend of cartoon-like graphics and casual gameplay, making it a charming addition to any gamer’s library. The game is lightweight, with an 83.78MB download size, and features Steam achievements and full controller support. Players can enjoy a range of graphics settings, including resolution, window mode, v-sync, anti-aliasing, max framerate, and screen position adjustments. One of the standout features is the extensive character customization, allowing players to tweak the color, crown, eyes, beak, wattle, body, tail, and feet of their characters.

The gameplay is simple yet addictive, with a casual flap ’em up style that has players flying around, collecting chicks, and placing them in nests to bank them. The auto-scrolling levels add a layer of challenge, and the end-of-run breakdown provides a detailed history of your run, including the distance traveled and game time. However, anything red-edged in the world will cause you to lose chicks, adding a strategic element to the game. The game has a unique vibe, reminiscent of Katamari meets Flicky, and the dropping food items can either help or hinder your progress by trapping you, hitting you off course, or dragging you down.

Behemoth is perfect for short, bite-sized gaming sessions and serves as an excellent palette cleanser. The online leaderboards add a competitive edge, and the bizarre nature of the game keeps it interesting. Players can collect and use power-ups to enhance their gameplay experience. However, the game lacks a proper tutorial, which can be confusing for new players. Additionally, the controls cannot be remapped, which might be a minor inconvenience despite the simplicity of the single action attached to multiple buttons.

While the game is enjoyable, it does have its drawbacks. There is little variety on long runs, and the game world remains the same every time, which can lead to a repetitive experience. Players only unlock customization items, and the lack of variety can sometimes cause confusion about what each element does.

In summary, Behemoth is a quirky and addictive game with charming graphics and simple gameplay. It offers a fun, casual experience with extensive customization options and online leaderboards. However, the lack of a tutorial, unchangeable controls, and a repetitive game world may detract from the overall experience. Despite these flaws, it remains a delightful game for short, enjoyable sessions.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
