Blow It Up Review Pros:

  • Chunky voxel-like graphics.
  • 368.4MB download size.
  • Platinum trophy.
  • Angry Birds style gameplay. You throw bombs at structures to hit all the enemies.
  • World map level select, freely roam around, and choose the level to play.
  • Earn coins to open up new parts of the map for new levels.
  • Hot explosive barrels and the like to get more destruction.
  • You can see the aiming arrow before firing.
  • Uses the same control scheme as Angry Birds.
  • The soundtrack is just remixes of well-known nursery rhymes.
  • Fast loading times.
  • You get X amount of throws, which are represented by hearts.
  • You can replay levels.
  • Full physics system in play so structures can fall in on themselves or lean.
  • You can choose to explode your character whenever you want or have him just hit walls.
  • Rescue and use different characters who have unique abilities.
  • Earn Bronze, Silver, and Gold trophies per level that show on the world map.
  • When you unlock a new character you get a playable tutorial on how to use them.
  • I found that the game got a lot more entertaining the further you get as the levels are better designed, and having a stable of characters makes it more a satisfying endeavor.
  • You can blow up elements throughout the game world and find secret areas.
  • Every part of the map has hidden coins.

Blow It Up Review Cons:

  • Cannot view or edit the controls.
  • No way to zoom the camera in making it hard at times to make structures and enemy placements out.
  • If you press pause as the level is finishing then the game will lock up.
  • Level difficulty is up and down constantly with some really tricky ones early on.
  • Very little replay value.
  • Doesn’t offer anything like online or offline leaderboards.
  • The play area looks like it’s a 2D space but it’s 3D where objects can fall forward and back making it very hard to know what’s going on.
  • There is no reward or incentive to try and use the least amount of bombs to clear the level.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
