Chernobylite Review Pros:
- Decent graphics.
- Download size.
- Steam achievements.
- Steam trading cards.
- Controller support.
- HDR-ready.
- Graphics benchmark test option.
- Graphics – fullscreen, resolution, v-sync, graphics preset, HDR, frame rate cap, a field of view slider, anti-aliasing, bloom, lens flare, depth of field, resolution scale, textures, draw distance.
- Controller settings – aim assist and aim assist strength slider.
- Can Invert axis and sensitivity sliders.
- Five difficulties – very easy/easy/medium/hard and insane.
- Russian voicework. (can be changed but it’s Russian by default)
- Difficulty options are set for the three individual settings – survival, combat, and management.
- Gore can be turned off or on.
- Save when you want.
- First-person shooter gameplay.
- Horror is the sub-genre here and features heavily.
- Has a lot of clever scene cuts/changes.
- Multiple choice interactions.
- An environmental analyzer is a handheld tool you have that can scan the area and highlight resources for you.
- Uses a robust crafting structure. You collect resources and then use stoves and workshops to build anything you have a recipe for.
- Base – you have an area where you can go into build mode and create/scrap new pieces of furniture and equipment. You need to balance it out with power generators.
- Mission – every day you go into a planning phase where you pick a mission but also one for any group members. They and you can only do one mission a day.
- Radiation is accrued and needs to be managed with meds.
- Beautifully grim locations.
- The portal generator will allow you to make a portal back to your base.
- Areas can be big areas and vary wildly.
- Compass to show objectives and places of interest.
- Stealth mechanic at play.
- Can loot the enemy.
- Areas are fully open and you can stay and explore to your heart’s content.
- Photo mode.
- Play how you want.
- The missions are randomized every run and have their own difficulties and rewards.
- Meet and recruit new members.
- Earn EXP and level up with a full stats tree.
- Nighttime is when you do a lot of team bonding, leveling up, and base building.
- A lot of loot lust going on.
- It is a good story and does hold your attention.
Chernobylite Review Cons:
- Cannot rebind controls.
- Slow pace.
- Very linear.
- A lot of small cramped places like corridors and small rooms.
- Slow burner.
- Menus don’t always show the crafting ingredients or info.
- Hard to see items/resources naturally.
