Chipmonk Review (PlayStation 4)

For this Chipmonk Review, we find out that the gluttonous gray squirrel has stolen all the land’s food stores, threatening the forest’s inhabitants with starvation. Embark on a perilous journey as a chipmunk martial arts master — Grey, Cheeks, or Red — as you battle a multitude of foes in a heroic attempt to recover the stolen food.

  • Works on Playstation 5.
  • Graphics settings – screenshake, and pop-ups.
  • Controller settings – vibration, 2x forward sprint, and 2x to roll.
  • Side-scroller fighting gameplay.
  • Perks – on/off.
  • Leaderboard support.
  • The help menu shows controls and advanced moves.
  • Three game modes – adventure, Duel, and onslaught.
  • Three characters – Red, Grey, and Cheeks. Each has unique stats like speed, health, and power.
  • Two-player local support.
  • Side scroller with full movement as in up and down, left and right.
  • Plays like a homage to Golden AXE.
  • Get temporary power-ups.
  • You can kick rocks into enemies or pick up and throw logs.
  • End of stage boss fights.
  • Set pieces can happen where you kick flies to get health and mushrooms.
  • Mushrooms power your special move.
  • You can pick up and throw enemies at each other.
  • A little assortment of environmental hazards you can trigger.
  • animated backgrounds with enemies jumping in from the foreground.
  • Special moves fill the screen and do damage to everyone on screen.

Chipmonk Review Cons:

  • Cannot rebind controls.
  • Bad hit detection.
  • No blocking so cheap shots are constant.
  • Boss fights are just huge sponges and cheap shots.
  • The movement no matter the character is slow. only a small pool of enemy types.
  • All the modes land up just playing the same over and over.
  • No online play.
  • Cheap shots coming in from off the screen.
  • A small set of attacks.
  • It’s not that fun.
