CreatorCrate Review (Steam)

This CreatorCrate Review takes on the deadly action and slapstick chaos. CreatorCrate is a viciously fast action platformer with roguelike elements. It’s about an appliance that devours everything, makes anything, and fights to escape a massive, circular space station. More than run and shoot: improvise and create!

CreatorCrate Review Pros:

  • Cool cartoon-like graphics.
  • 515.52MB download size.
  • Steam achievements.
  • Controller support.
  • Graphics – fullscreen, resolution, v-sync, anti-aliasing, shadow quality, bloom, and background quality.
  • Ascii effects – on/off.
  • Can rebind controls for both keyboard and the controller.
  • Optional tutorial menu.
  • Roguelike platformer gameplay.
  • In-game cutscenes.
  • The gimmick is you can pick up items and use them as weapons (classed as blueprints) or absorb them to recreate them at will later on.
  • Lode Runner-looking level style.
  • Very fast-paced.
  • Best placed with mouse and keyboard.
  • Uses momentum and physics for throwing items.
  • Levels randomize every run.
  • You have a map that shows the immediate map then goes out to an overall map than a world view.
  • Find keys to advance in the level.
  • Areas are absolutely huge.
  • Feels like a speedrunner game.
  • Can be played like a pacifist.
  • Repair yourself with any collected matter.
  • Hot these booths that will save your blueprints.
  • The easy mode can be unlocked (easily).

CreatorCrate Review Cons:

  • Playing with a controller is less than ideal as it uses a twin-stick control scheme that doesn’t work that well with timed swing jumps and picking things up quickly.
  • Basic tutorial.
  • The map is chaotic and goes through the stages every time.
  • Not sure what’s going on half the time.
  • The levels are so big it’s a nightmare to navigate for keys.
  • Doesn’t play that well as you could run all over the level only to find you need to go the other way for the exit or items needed for the exit.
  • Feels a bit flat.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
